Bouygues Telecom has introduced a new service called Anti-Spam, designed to detect and warn users about suspicious calls before they answer. The service works directly within Bouygues Telecom's 4G and 5G networks, meaning no app installation or phone configuration is needed. The company announced the service on September 28, stating that it uses technology from Hiya, a U.S.-based company that specializes in identifying calls. This partnership builds on a previous collaboration that launched Branded Call, a feature allowing companies to display their names on the caller ID of Bouygues Telecom users.
Anti-Spam analyzes call patterns, including the age of the phone number, frequency of calls, and their duration. For example, a new number making hundreds of short calls is often linked to automated telemarketing. Hiya claims its system processes 28 billion call events monthly from 550 million users globally. However, the service only alerts users to potentially suspicious calls—it does not block them. Users still receive the call and decide whether to answer.
Bruno Duarte, deputy general manager of Bouygues Telecom, said the service gives customers "the freedom to choose which calls they want to answer." The feature is available to both individuals and businesses. For professionals, the cost is 1 euro per month and per line, starting October 12. For general customers, the fee is 2 euros per month and per line, with availability beginning October 5.
According to a 2025 report by the J'alerte platform, managed by ARCEP, France's telecom regulator, 94% of people had received unwanted calls in the previous year. Nearly nine out of ten mobile users had received a fraudulent or unwanted call in the three months before the survey. Bouygues Telecom aims to support efforts to reduce fraudulent calls in France.
However, several free alternatives are already available. Free, another telecom provider, has had an anti-spam voice feature enabled by default on all mobile lines since February 2025, without extra costs. The feature filters calls based on a list of numbers maintained by the operator, and users can disable it through their account. The Orange Téléphone app, available on Android and iOS, alerts users to unwanted calls regardless of their network provider. Automatic call blocking is available only for Orange or Sosh customers who have subscribed to the Cybersecure option. The French app Saracroche also blocks unwanted calls for free on both Android and iPhone.
A February 2026 report by ARCEP found that 94% of 5,250 surveyed individuals had received at least one unwanted call or text in the previous three months, with 57% receiving almost one daily. Since August 11, 2026, telemarketing without prior consent has been banned, except for existing contracts. This rule came from a 2025 law against fraud in public aid and led to the removal of the Bloctel list, which allowed people to opt out of telemarketing. Those who call without consent are already breaking the law, and Anti-Spam is meant to help identify them.
For individual users, paying 24 euros per year per line for a simple warning feature may be difficult to justify, especially with free alternatives like Saracroche, Free’s service, or the Orange app.
