Great Britain is assured of at least three medals at the European Boxing Championships in Bulgaria after Chantelle Reid, Damar Thomas, and Abdul Burton advanced to the semi-finals. The competition is being held in Sofia, at the Asics Arena Sports Hall, and features boxers from across Europe competing in various weight classes. Reid, a 28-year-old Commonwealth Games silver medalist, secured a decisive 5-0 victory over Ireland's Evelyn Igharo in the women's light-middleweight category. She will now face Serbia's Milena Matovic in the semi-finals on Wednesday. In the men's super-heavyweight division, 21-year-old Damar Thomas also claimed a 5-0 win against Georgia's Nikoloz Begadze. Thomas will now face Azerbaijan's Mahammad Abdullayev in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Abdul Burton, a 20-year-old boxer, edged out the home favorite and Olympic bronze medalist Javier Ibanez of Spain with a narrow 3-2 scoreline. Burton will now face Turkey's Semih Gumus in the semi-finals. "Sometimes you have to dig in and when things go against you, you have to get stuck in and show who you are," Burton said. "I am young, hungry, and here to take over." Other British boxers are also in action on Wednesday, with Lauren Mackie, Amy Broadhurst, Callum Makin, and Oladimeji Shittu set to compete in the quarter-finals. However, more than half of Britain's 15-strong squad has already been eliminated from the competition. On Tuesday, flyweight Ruby White lost 3-2 to Olympic silver medalist Hatice Akbas of Turkey. In the light-heavyweight division, Emily Asquith was defeated 5-0 by Ireland's Lisa O'Rourke. Meanwhile, in the men's heavyweight category, Commonwealth Games champion Isaac Okoh was eliminated 3-0 by Germany's Kevin Lebowski.
