Abdul Burton of Great Britain has made it to the final of the European Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, joining teammates Chantelle Reid and Damar Thomas in the finals. Burton, who is 20 years old, defeated Turkey's Semih Gumus 4-1 in the men's super-bantamweight semi-final. He will now face Russia's Viacheslav Rogozin in the final on Friday. Meanwhile, Reid and Thomas will compete for the women's light-middleweight and men's super-heavyweight titles, respectively. Burton expressed his satisfaction with his performance, saying, "I'm happy, it was a good performance against a tricky kid. I had to stay disciplined. I've really enjoyed the week, it's good to secure silver but I'm going to be pushing for gold tomorrow. It would be pretty big to do that in my first major, when I'm this young, so all eyes on that." Burton was one of three British semi-finalists, but he was the only one to win his match. Dimeji Shittu and Callum Makin both lost their semi-finals and will receive bronze medals. Commonwealth Games silver medallist Dimeji Shittu lost 4-1 to Russia's Cheerav Ashalaev in the light-heavyweight division. He acknowledged that his opponent was strong and said, "He was a strong opponent, it was competitive but fair play to him. He's a tough guy, big scary guy - but I'll 100% get him next time. I've still come away with a medal so I'm delighted with that. It wasn't to be today but I will learn from it and come back." Callum Makin also lost 4-1 in his semi-final, this time to Azerbaijan's Saidjamshid Jafarov in the middleweight category. Despite the losses, both Shittu and Makin remain optimistic about future competitions, showing the resilience and determination that define elite athletes. The British team's performance at the European Boxing Championships highlights the strength of British boxing and the promise of young athletes like Burton, who are making their mark on the international stage.
