Great Britain's Chantelle Reid and Damar Thomas have advanced to the finals of the European Boxing Championships after winning their semi-final matches on Wednesday. Reid, competing in the light-middleweight division, defeated Serbia's Milena Matovic with a score of 3-2. Thomas, in the men's super-heavyweight category, secured a dominant 5-0 victory over Azerbaijan's Mahammad Abdullayev. Alongside them, team-mates Callum Makin and Dimeji Shittu have also guaranteed medals after winning their quarter-final bouts in the men's middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions, respectively. Reid, who previously won silver at the Commonwealth Games, faced a tough challenge from Matovic, trailing after the first round. However, she turned the match around in the second round and maintained her lead in the third to claim victory at the Asics Arena Sports Hall in Sofia, Bulgaria. "It was a really good bout. She's a really good girl and I hope we get to share the ring again one day," Reid said. She will face Turkey's Busenaz Surmeneli in the final on Friday, following Surmeneli's 3-2 win over Russia's Nadezhda Golubeva. Thomas, a 21-year-old Commonwealth gold medalist, will meet Russia's David Surov in the final after Surov also won 5-0 against Austria's Ahmed Hagag. Meanwhile, Shittu, who had to settle for silver at the Commonwealth Games due to a controversial loss, secured a European medal with a 5-0 victory over Austria's Lucky Aimufua. The 24-year-old will fight Russia's Cheerav Ashalaev on Thursday for a place in the final. "I want to show that I can box, not just brawl," Shittu said, reflecting on his improved performance. Makin, a bronze medallist at last year's World Boxing Championships, advanced with a 3-2 win over Armenia's Marat Mikaelyan and will face Azerbaijan's Saidjamshid Jafarov in Thursday's semi-final. Other British fighters faced setbacks on Wednesday, with Lauren Mackie and Amy Broadhurst both losing in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Abdul Burton will compete in the men's super-bantamweight semi-finals on Thursday, facing Turkey's Semih Gumus. The session featuring Burton and Shittu starts at 11:30 BST, while Makin's bout with Jafarov is scheduled for 16:00 BST.
