Event focuses on discrimination awareness

The Mission locale jeunes de la Petite Camargue héraultaise is organizing an event centered on combating discrimination, with a unique blind recruitment process as a key feature. The event aims to raise awareness about how discrimination can occur in everyday situations, particularly in hiring practices.

Workshops and interactive sessions

The organization usually holds five or six collective workshops annually, where young people explore topics like the legal definitions of discrimination and how it can appear in areas like employment or housing. This event, however, is a larger-scale initiative, dedicating an entire day to the issue.

Structure of the event

The day will begin with an awareness session in the morning, followed by a lunch provided by the Mission locale. In the afternoon, participants will engage in a game designed to highlight discrimination. A unique feature of the event is a blind interview process where companies will meet young people behind a screen, using completely anonymized CVs to reveal how quickly biases can influence hiring decisions.

New approach for the organization

While the Mission locale has participated in similar events, such as reversed job fairs and sports-interview days, using anonymized CVs in a recruitment process is a first. Companies like Burger King and O2 may offer temporary or permanent roles, while the city of Lunel-Viel and the APIGE have different hiring needs, focusing on animation and insertion projects.

Focus on awareness over employment

Although the Mission locale will follow up on any potential job offers, the main objective is to raise awareness among both young people and recruiters. Marion Borelly, a counselor at the organization, noted that while many young people believe they understand discrimination, many have experienced it in school settings.

Event timing and location

The event will take place on October 15 at the Mauguio branch of the Mission locale, welcoming young people aged 16 to 25 from areas including La Grande-Motte, Palavas, Carnon, Mauguio, and the Lunellois. It is part of the Week of the Missions Locales, which focuses on citizenship and the connection between fighting discrimination and promoting civic engagement.
