Collaboration with Nk.F

Philippe Katerine worked closely with Nk.F, a producer known for his work with artists like PNL, Damso, and Angèle. This partnership led to the creation of an album that blends direct songwriting with contemporary urban pop and minimal hip-hop styles.

Creative process and album origin

Katerine’s album, Planète bleue, was initiated in September 2025 and partly created near his home and in Montreal. Nk.F provided Katerine with thirty previously lost instrumentals, which inspired the album’s unique sound and direction.

Musical transformation and style

The album marks a significant shift for Katerine, moving into a style that includes Auto-Tune and hip-hop elements. He crafted eleven songs driven by personal urgency, with Nk.F assisting in harmonies and sound details to enhance the tracks.

Themes and emotional depth

Songs like Je te donnerais and Encore je joue explore themes of sacrifice and mortality, with Katerine delivering raw and honest lyrics. These tracks highlight his ability to blend emotional depth with catchy, modern production.

Luminous and reflective moments

Despite the album’s darker themes, Katerine also embraces lighter moments, such as on Mode avion, where he celebrates life with a luminous pop melody. He often expresses a desire to escape and enjoy simple pleasures, like chilling on a bench.

Eco-hymn and social commentary

The album includes tracks with social and environmental messages, such as Les Enfants sont de droite, which injects anticapitalist themes into rap. Katerine maintains his identity as an honest and eccentric poet, blending personal and universal themes throughout Planète bleue.

Album release and impact

Planète bleue was released on October 23 by Maison Magique/Cinq7/Wagram. The album’s standout track, Planète bleue, is described as a baroque eco-hymn, rich in references and potentially resonant with a broader audience.
