Philippe Katerine releases new album
Philippe Katerine, an artist based in the French region of Vendée, released his new album Planète Bleue on October 23 through the record labels La Maison Magique, Cinq7, and Wagram. The album was created in collaboration with hip-hop director Nk.F, who has worked with artists like Niska, AlKpote, PNL, and Damso. Collaboration between different artists
Katerine chose Nk.F to produce the album after their previous work on the Zouzou project. Despite coming from different cultural backgrounds, the two artists found a creative synergy. Nk.F provided instrumental tracks, which Katerine reworked into new songs, creating a dynamic and collaborative process. Ecological themes emerge naturally
Katerine said the album’s ecological themes were not planned but arose from his personal reflections. He recalled childhood memories of environmental neglect, such as seeing cyclists discard bottles into ravines. The album’s title, Planète Bleue, also reflects his favorite color, blue, which is the color of his eyes. Spontaneous and intense creative process
The album was created through a spontaneous process, with Katerine composing songs in various places, including his home and while traveling. He described the experience as both exhausting and exciting, emphasizing the immediacy and intensity of the creative process. Support for youth activism
Katerine expressed support for youth activism, particularly high school demonstrations and the courage of young people advocating for change. He acknowledged the role of rebellion and creativity in driving social progress, aligning his artistic journey with broader societal movements. Upcoming exhibition plans
The album’s release marks Katerine’s return to the music scene, and he plans to hold a significant exhibition focusing on drawing and painting during his next return, continuing his artistic expression beyond music.
