Theatrical production explores multiverse themes

That’s the Way the Cookie Crumbles, a theatrical production by Émilie Franco, explores the concept of the multiverse and the practice of reality shifting, a trend popularized by adolescents on TikTok. The performance blends theatre, live music, and video to examine the idea that multiple versions of oneself might exist simultaneously, offering different perspectives on self and the world.

Inspired by a personal family story

The production is based on the auto-fictional narrative of Marianna Belmonte, Franco's nonna, who allegedly left Sicily after World War II in 1954, heading to both Liège and New York. Through field research, the piece traces the double of Marianna across continents and leads Franco to meet her own alter-ego, Joan.

Collaborative creative team

The production features Émilie Franco in conception, writing, and performance, with music composed and performed by Aurélie Mestres (Louise Roam). Gaëtan Rusquet contributes to scenography, artistic collaboration, and performance. Raphaël Barani is responsible for sound creation, general direction, and sound engineering, while Florian Leduc handles lighting. Other collaborators include dramaturgical advisors, choreographers, and technical staff, creating a multidisciplinary production.

Support and production details

The production has received support from Le Corridor, Maison Poème, Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, and several other cultural institutions. It also benefits from the support of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and SACD Beaumarchais. The performance lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes and will be presented at La Pop in Paris from November 5 to 7, 2026.
