Nintendo has released a free update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch 2, adding support for up to eight-player split-screen local multiplayer. This means players can now race together on a single console with up to seven friends in the same room, making it ideal for gatherings or family game nights. The update also introduces CameraPlay support, which allows players to use an official Switch 2 camera or a compatible USB-C camera to capture and view friends' reactions during gameplay. This feature can be used online through GameChat, a built-in voice chat system, similar to how it works in Mario Kart World. The update also brings shorter loading times and "enhanced visuals" when playing in docked mode, which requires a 4K TV to fully experience the improved graphics. These upgrades highlight Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to refining the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe experience, which originally launched for the Wii U in 2014 and was later brought to the original Switch. While the Switch 2 launched last year with Mario Kart World, Nintendo continues to provide updates for the older title, showing its dedication to supporting its popular racing franchise across multiple platforms. Nintendo has also been actively improving Mario Kart World with its own updates, though some fans had hoped for downloadable content (DLC) for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Meanwhile, Mario Kart World is now included in a newly revamped Switch 2 bundle, which costs $50 more than the original bundle. The new package also includes a three-month Nintendo Switch Online membership, offering access to online multiplayer and a library of classic games. This bundle reflects Nintendo’s strategy to enhance the value of its hardware while continuing to support its flagship titles.
