Mario Kart World is getting a free update today that brings back several classic tracks from the original Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) version of the game. Among the added courses are Choco Island, Mario Circuit, and Ghost Valley, with a total of ten new tracks becoming available in the game’s Versus mode. These tracks were previously part of the open world but only offered exploration rewards and time-based challenges involving P-Switches. Now, they are fully playable race tracks with familiar mechanics, including question blocks that appear flat on the ground, similar to how power-ups were accessed in the first Super Mario Kart. In addition to the new tracks, two new routes will be introduced in Knockout Tour, a unique elimination-style racing mode where drivers race through long, interconnected paths. This update marks the first time Mario Kart World has received new tracks since its release. The update, version 1.8.0, will be available for download later today. Separately, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe recently received a free update for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. This update adds support for eight-player split-screen mode and slightly improved graphics. The announcement came during a recent Nintendo Direct livestream, which also previewed a new 2D Metroid game and an open-world Kirby project, both of which are expected to be released in the near future. These updates highlight Nintendo’s ongoing efforts to enhance and expand its popular racing franchise, offering both longtime fans and newcomers new ways to enjoy the Mario Kart experience.
