Ford Pro has introduced an updated version of its E-Transit electric van, featuring a new 96 kWh battery, at the IAA Transportation exhibition in Hanover. This update increases the maximum range of the van to 432 kilometers according to the WLTP (World Light-Duty Test Procedure) cycle. This represents an increase of about 30 kilometers compared to the previous extended range version, which had an 89 kWh battery and a range exceeding 400 kilometers. While the additional range may seem modest, it could be significant for commercial fleets that make long-distance deliveries and aim to reduce the need for recharging during the day.
The new E-Transit also supports fast charging with direct current, capable of reaching 180 kW. Ford claims that up to 120 kilometers of range can be restored in just ten minutes of charging. Under optimal conditions, charging from 10 to 80 percent takes approximately 28 minutes. These improvements could help reduce downtime for fleet operators and make long-haul operations more efficient.
Ford has not yet announced specific prices for the new 96 kWh version in France. For reference, the E-Transit with the 89 kWh battery is currently listed from 69,245 euros HT (excluding tax) in France, with a discounted price of 53,318.65 euros HT. The new 96 kWh version will be available in both van and double cab configurations, offering greater flexibility for different types of commercial use.
The value of this new version will largely depend on its final price and whether the additional range justifies the cost for potential buyers. While the 30-kilometer increase is relatively small, it could be a key factor for businesses operating in regions with limited charging infrastructure or those prioritizing efficiency in long-distance operations.
