Spotify has introduced a new feature called "Taste Profile" for its Premium subscribers in the U.S., allowing users to view and modify how the platform interprets their preferences across music, podcasts, and audiobooks. The feature was first announced in March at the SXSW conference by Spotify co-CEO Gustav Söderström and was initially available in beta to listeners in New Zealand. Now, it is being rolled out in the U.S., targeting listeners aged 18 and older for a larger test. This update aims to give users more control over the types of content they see on the platform. With Taste Profile, users can interact directly with Spotify's algorithm using natural language commands. For example, they can refine their recommendations by specifying preferred genres, moods, or even the energy level of the music. This gives users more influence over features like Discover Weekly, Made for You, and Spotify Wrapped, which are powered by Spotify’s recommendation algorithms. Previously, users could only exclude specific tracks or playlists from their Taste Profile, but now they can make broader adjustments, such as removing entire genres or specifying preferred vibes. To access the Taste Profile on the mobile app, users can tap on their profile picture, scroll down, and select "Taste Profile." From there, they can explore how Spotify interprets their listening habits and make adjustments under the "Tell us more" section. These changes usually take a few hours to reflect on the Home Page, where personalized recommendations are displayed. The Taste Profile feature is still in beta, and Spotify has not yet announced a timeline for a wider release. However, the tool offers users the ability to explore new genres, adjust the energy level of their music, or shape their podcast and audiobook recommendations. Users can also request more variety or specify preferences for different moods or occasions, making the experience more tailored to their individual tastes.
