Eugenio Chacarra, a professional golfer who recently finished third at the FedEx Open de France and is currently third in the Race to Dubai rankings, suffered a foot injury at home. The injury happened when he hit the corner of a sofa while walking in the dark. According to Chacarra, he fractured his third toe and suffered a small tear on the second one. The incident occurred just one week before the Open d'Espagne, which is scheduled to take place from 8 to 11 October at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, near his hometown of Madrid. Chacarra said the past four or five days have been difficult, but he believes he is improving. He mentioned that his physiotherapist and doctor are working hard to ensure he can play this week, which he considers very important. Chacarra has not missed a single cut in nine consecutive tournaments since the BMW International Open in July. His recent performances include two top 25 finishes, a fourth place at the Omega European Masters, and a podium finish at the Golf National, where he was in contention for victory before a disqualifying double bogey on the par 4 13th at the Albatros. Chacarra expressed excitement about playing at the Open d'Espagne, a tournament he has attended since he was six years old. He emphasized that it is impossible for him to miss this week and that he is looking forward to getting into the tournament. He stated that he does not like making excuses and that if he feels ready to play, he needs to focus, play his golf, and do his best. If Chacarra wins, he could take the lead in the Race to Dubai and secure his ticket to the upcoming Masters. Additionally, a qualification for The Open is also at stake for the player who finishes best in the leaderboard without benefiting from an exemption.
