BYD, a major Chinese manufacturer of electric vehicles, has revealed the interior of its new third-generation electric SUV, the Tang. The vehicle features two large displays: one measuring 35.4 inches and another 30 inches. The larger screen, placed beneath the windshield, shows driving-related information such as speed and navigation, while the smaller one is used for entertainment and multimedia functions. The SUV, which is more than 5 meters long, places these screens at the center of its interior design. Lu Tian, head of the Dynasty division at BYD, said the design was inspired by futuristic spacecraft, aiming to create a high-tech and immersive driving experience.
The new electric vehicle is powered by a 300 kW (408 horsepower) electric motor and features two Blade 2 batteries with capacities of 88.7 kWh and 105.8 kWh. Depending on the version, the vehicle can travel between 730 and 850 kilometers on a single charge. It also includes fast-charging technology, which allows it to charge from 10 to 70% in about five minutes and from 10 to 97% in around nine minutes. Additionally, the SUV is equipped with an air suspension system that adjusts the vehicle's height and predicts road conditions for a smoother ride. The vehicle also includes BYD's God's Eye B, a suite of advanced driver assistance systems that help with tasks like parking and avoiding obstacles.
BYD plans to launch the new generation of the Tang exclusively in China during the fourth quarter of 2026. However, the previous version of the SUV is already available in France. The release of the new model comes at a time when the Tang division has experienced a significant drop in sales, with numbers nearly halving compared to the same period last year in China. The goal for the new version is to rejuvenate the BYD subsidiary and regain market share. While the official price has not been announced, Chinese media estimate it will range between 220,000 and 260,000 yuan, or roughly 29,300 to 34,600 euros.
The new Tang is part of BYD's ongoing efforts to innovate in the electric vehicle market, which has been growing rapidly in China and beyond. The company is competing with both domestic and international brands in a sector that is becoming increasingly important for the future of transportation. The success of this new model will depend on factors such as consumer interest, pricing, and the performance of its advanced technologies.
