Demo available for Kyoto Xanadu

Falcom has released a demo of Kyoto Xanadu, its action role-playing game. It is available in Japan and Asia on PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam. On Nintendo consoles, it can be downloaded from the Japanese eShop. The demo allows players to play from the prologue up to the end of the first chapter, and the demo save can be continued in the full game for those who purchase it.

Game release details

The game was released on July 16 in Japan and Asia on PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, and Steam. A Western release is planned, but no date has been announced.

Setting and story

The story takes place in a contemporary Japan where Kyoto has become the capital. Boys and girls awaken as "eligibles" and travel to another world called Xanadu. The protagonist, Kamiya Rei, has obtained the power to fight the monsters of the Xanadu labyrinth, a place in another world. He joins the Hirasaka Academy, whose goal is to conquer Xanadu, and attacks it with companions who have unique profiles.

Combat system

The combat system is based on two distinct action styles. Exploration of Xanadu takes place in 2D action, with various melee and ranged attacks, as well as mechanics related to elements. Battles take place in 3D action, with mechanics such as Soul Accel, which significantly enhances the player's abilities, and Issen, a deadly one-hit counterattack triggered by a perfectly synchronized guard.

School and daily life

The school and daily life phases offer many gameplay elements. Card-based classes allow players to improve character parameters. It is possible to build relationships with other students, both inside and outside the academy. The player can also explore Kyoto to find gourmet addresses, leisure places, and special events.
