BMW has introduced the iX4, an electric Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) that is part of its Neue Klasse electric vehicle lineup, which includes the iX3, iX5, and i3 sedan. The iX4 replaces the traditional gasoline-powered X4, which will no longer be sold in France by the end of 2025. The iX4 has the same length (4.78 meters), width (1.89 meters), and wheelbase (2.897 meters) as the iX3, but it is slightly shorter in height (1.59 meters). Its design includes a sloped roofline, giving it a more athletic appearance compared to the iX3, while retaining the same front design. The M60 xDrive version includes unique features like yellow "M Yellow Lights" inspired by racing cars. At launch, the iX4 will be available in two all-wheel drive variants. The 40 xDrive model produces 374 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque, while the 50 xDrive model has 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque. The 50 xDrive has a larger 108.7 kWh battery and offers a WLTP range of up to 828 km, compared to 805 km for the iX3. The 40 xDrive has an 82.6 kWh battery and a range of up to 638 km, which is 17 km more than the iX3 40 xDrive. The iX4 also has a slightly better drag coefficient (0.23) than the iX3 (0.24), which helps improve its range. The iX4 supports fast charging through an 800V platform. The 50 xDrive version can charge at up to 400 kW of DC power, allowing it to recover 387 km of range in just 10 minutes. The 40 xDrive version supports up to 300 kW, giving it 301 km of range in the same time. The iX4 also features functions that allow it to redistribute energy, such as V2L (vehicle to load), V2H (vehicle to home), and V2G (vehicle to grid), with an automatic charging hatch. These features make the iX4 more versatile for energy use beyond just transportation. Inside, the iX4 shares its interior design with the iX3 and the new i3, featuring a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, BMW Panoramic Vision across the windshield, and a two or four-spoked steering wheel with touch controls. The M60 xDrive version includes M Sport elements like a specific steering wheel, M Sport seats, and an M diffuser. While rear passengers have similar legroom to the iX3, the sloped roof may reduce headroom for taller individuals. The trunk capacity is 490 liters, slightly less than the iX3, but expands to 1,600 liters when the rear seats are folded down. A front trunk, or "frunk," offers an additional 58 liters of storage space. The M60 xDrive version is set to launch in early 2027 and will have 612 horsepower and 875 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. It will have a WLTP range of up to 777 km. Prices for the iX4 start at 73,950 euros for the 40 xDrive, 79,450 euros for the 50 xDrive, and 96,950 euros for the M60 xDrive. The M Sport trim is standard, and the iX4 is 1,400 euros more expensive than the iX3. Orders for the iX4 opened on October 8, 2026, with a commercial launch planned for March 6, 2027. The iX4 will be manufactured at BMW's plant in Debrecen, Hungary.
