Curfew imposed in Toulouse

The prefecture of Haute-Garonne has imposed a curfew in part of the hypercenter of Toulouse, from Thursday, October 22 to Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 23:59 to 5:00. The measure covers several streets and squares in the city center, including the Capitole square and the Saint-Rome street.

Reason for the curfew

The decision follows the violence and damage that occurred during a mobilization on October 17, which was against the high cost of living. The prefecture reported many injured police officers, damage to public spaces, and a dozen stores that were looted, with the incidents continuing late into the night.

Conditions for exceptions

Exceptions to the curfew are allowed for people needing to reach or leave their home, workplace, or accommodation. Movements for urgent health reasons, public officials, and those on public service missions are also permitted. Individuals must be able to justify their need to be in the area.

Potential for more curfews

Toulouse now joins other cities that have implemented curfews after similar violence. Paris and Lyon have had curfews in certain neighborhoods since Monday evening, and Marseille has restrictions targeting minors. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said new restrictions could be introduced if the situation demands it.
