Curfew imposed on minors

A curfew for minors has been introduced in the towns of Villefranche-sur-Saône, Limas, and Gleizé, starting on Friday, October 23, and ending on Monday, October 26. The decision was made by the mayors of these towns in collaboration with the local prefecture, following incidents of violence and property damage over the weekend of October 17.

Reason for the curfew

The curfew aims to ensure public safety, as stated in reports by Le Progrès after the riots on October 17. These towns, like Lyon, were affected by looting and damage to property during the unrest. The curfew is specifically targeted at minors to prevent further incidents.

Curfew hours and conditions

From Friday evening until Monday, minors will not be allowed to be in public spaces between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This restriction is intended to limit the movement of young people during late hours when incidents are more likely to occur.

Increased police presence

In addition to the curfew, Villefranche-sur-Saône has announced an increase in the number of national police officers. Municipal police and teams from the urban supervision center (CSU) will also be deployed to enhance security and monitor public areas more closely.

Private security involvement

Private security personnel will be placed on public roads to monitor key locations such as the city center and commercial areas. Their role is to support official police efforts in maintaining order and preventing further disturbances.
