Curfew extended for minors in Lille

The curfew for unaccompanied minors in Lille has been extended until Monday, October 26, and now includes additional communes in the Nord department. Originally introduced on Monday evening in Lille and three other cities in the region, the curfew now applies to the communes of Marly and Valenciennes as well.

Curfew hours and restricted areas

The prefectural decree, published on Friday, sets curfews from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in specific sectors of the affected cities, including much of Lille’s center. This restriction applies from Friday, October 23, in the evening, through Monday, October 26, in the morning.

Prohibited gatherings and demonstrations

In addition to the curfew, gatherings and demonstrations are banned in the center of Lille. Another decree, issued on Thursday by the prefect of the Nord, prohibits such events in the city center on Saturday, October 24, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Legal challenge rejected

The administrative court in Lille rejected an emergency appeal filed by the Vigie Liberté association on Friday evening. The group had sought to challenge the restrictions on gatherings and demonstrations in the city center.

Demonstration route under review

According to labor unions, the planned demonstration on October 24 in Lille is expected to take place in the southern part of the city, outside the restricted area. The final route has not yet been officially approved by the Nord prefecture.

Violence and shoplifting reported

Like other major French cities, Lille experienced violent incidents and shoplifting over the weekend, following a large peaceful demonstration against the high cost of living. The prefecture reported 88 damaged businesses in Lille on October 17, including 25 looted and two set on fire.
