Bloodborne, a critically acclaimed action RPG developed by FromSoftware and released in 2015 exclusively for the PlayStation 4, has been given a new life on PC through the efforts of fans. Despite its enduring popularity and status as one of the developer’s most celebrated titles, Bloodborne has never been officially ported to other platforms, including the PlayStation 5 or PC. However, a group of modders has created a native PC version of the game, which runs without the need for an emulator or recompiler. This version is available on GitHub, where users can follow step-by-step instructions to download and install it. The PC port of Bloodborne introduces several new features not found in the original release, including co-op and PvP multiplayer modes, customizable controls for keyboard and mouse, and support for higher frame rates—up to 60 fps or more, compared to the 30 fps on the PS4. It also allows for custom resolutions, such as ultra-wide 21:9 and 32:9 formats, and includes a dedicated graphical menu for fine-tuning visuals and performance. The port is fully compatible with mods and works well on the Steam Deck, offering a more flexible and enhanced experience for PC users. Despite these improvements, the port exists in a legal and moral gray area. According to PlayStation’s terms of service, emulation and modification of its software are prohibited, even if the original game is legally owned. This means that while the modders have not distributed the original game’s copyrighted content, the use of their port may not be authorized under the law. Sony and FromSoftware have not officially commented on the port, and neither company has released a remastered version or sequel to Bloodborne. Fans of the game continue to hope for an official remaster or sequel, but for now, the PC port offers a compelling alternative for those who want to experience Bloodborne on different hardware. While it is possible to legally play the game on PlayStation 4 and it is backward compatible with the PlayStation 5, the latest console does not provide significant performance improvements. As a result, the fan-made PC version stands as a testament to the game’s lasting appeal and the dedication of its community.
