In the upcoming episode of EastEnders airing on Wednesday, September 16, at 7:30pm on BBC One, viewers will witness a dramatic moment as Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) gives birth to her baby. The episode, which will also be available on BBC iPlayer from 6am, features emotional scenes that will test the relationships of several characters. Penny is currently in a relationship with Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota), who believes he is the father of her child. However, earlier in the year, Penny had a one-night stand with Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway), who is now in a relationship with Penny’s best friend, Gina Knight (Francesca Henry). This raises the possibility that Harry, rather than Vinny, could be the baby’s father. Penny had decided to keep this secret from Vinny, planning to reveal the truth on his 30th birthday. However, her labor began unexpectedly, and she was rushed to the hospital before she could tell him. Despite the last-minute rush, Vinny managed to arrive just in time to meet his child for the first time. Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa), Penny’s cousin and someone who is aware of the situation, asked Penny how she was feeling about the secret. Penny was considering whether to keep it but was interrupted when Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) arrived at the hospital and overheard the conversation. Priya, who is close to Vinny—since he is Ravi Gulati’s (Aaron Thiara) brother—has her own secrets of her own. She is also pregnant, and there is a chance the baby could be Max’s (Jake Wood). Penny is aware of Priya’s pregnancy and the possible consequences, though only Ravi knows about it, and Priya wants to keep it a secret. The episode sets up tension as it raises questions about whether Priya will confront Penny about what she overheard. It also leaves viewers wondering how far Priya will go with the information and what impact it might have on the relationships and secrets within the community.
