In the popular British soap opera EastEnders, a dramatic twist is set to unfold next week as Penny Branning, played by Kitty Castledine, gives birth to a baby whose paternity is in question. For months, Penny has led her partner Vinny Panesar, portrayed by Shiv Jalota, to believe the child is his. However, it turns out that before she began a relationship with Vinny, Penny had secretly met with her former lover, Harry Mitchell, played by Elijah Holloway, and the child may not be Vinny’s. The revelation came after Penny’s former partner’s mother, Nicola Mitchell, played by Laura Doddington, discovered the affair and pushed for a DNA test to confirm the baby’s father. Penny, fearing the truth would cause chaos, manipulated the test results to hide the secret. Only Penny’s cousins, Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier), were aware of the full story. However, this changes when Penny goes into labor during Vinny’s 30th birthday celebration, throwing the party into turmoil. At the celebration, tensions rise as Penny becomes upset, and Lauren realizes something is wrong. She confronts Penny, who is determined to tell Vinny the truth about the baby’s possible paternity. Despite Lauren’s attempts to dissuade her, Penny remains resolute. Meanwhile, Suki Panesar-Unwin, played by Balvinder Sopal, causes further distress for Penny before her water breaks. Vinny, unaware of the unfolding drama, is eventually helped by Harry and his girlfriend, Gina Knight, to get to the hospital in time for the birth. As the baby is born, Penny and Vinny are overjoyed, but Penny later confides in Lauren that she has decided not to reveal the truth to Vinny. However, she is unaware that someone else has overheard her. The episode culminates in a confrontation at the baby’s Naam Karan ceremony, where the identity of the eavesdropper is revealed, leading to the exposure of another secret. These dramatic scenes air on EastEnders starting Monday, 14th September, at 7:30pm on BBC One, or can be streamed from 6am on iPlayer.
