Personalized aid for vulnerable individuals

Every Thursday, the Red Cross delivers about twenty individualized packages to people in need, each tailored to the specific requirements of the recipient. François Caizergues, a volunteer for nearly four years and current branch leader, emphasizes the importance of personalization, noting that packages are adapted to factors like dietary restrictions, mobility issues, and even pet care.

A mission of connection and support

Caizergues explains that the deliveries are not just about providing food but also about creating human connections. Before each delivery, he prepares the young volunteers by sharing details about the recipient, such as if they use a wheelchair or have specific needs. The goal is to ensure the volunteers approach each delivery with empathy and without judgment.

A police-led youth association

An association created by the national police, the CPCJ-PN 30, was established in 2021 to build ties between police forces and youth while preventing juvenile delinquency. Directed by police official Frédéric Palumbo, it operates with support from local authorities and educational institutions, offering a range of activities for children and teenagers.

Engaging youth through structured programs

The association in the Gard department welcomes young people aged 9 to 16, with participation ranging from about thirty during school holidays to up to eighty throughout the year. Many return regularly, often with siblings, and the program relies heavily on word-of-mouth referrals. The association focuses on teaching values like kindness and solidarity, with a goal of fostering long-term positive relationships with the police.

Building trust through immersive experiences

This summer, the association organized a week-long stay at a local sports center, followed by a day at the police school. The event included training sessions, shared meals, and discussions with police trainees. The director believes such experiences help correct misconceptions about police work and strengthen the bond between youth and law enforcement. He hopes to expand the program to reach more young people.
