From Nov 1–30, Gard collectivities launch a toy donation drive to promote reuse and solidarity, with eco-organizations handling repairs and recycling.
Toy collection campaign begins
Three territorial collectivities in the Gard department—Nîmes Métropole, the Smictom Rhône Garrigues, and the Mixed Syndicate Sud Rhône Environnement—are organizing a major solidarity toy collection alongside eco-organizations Ecosystem and Ecomaison from November 1st to November 30th.Collection focuses on toy reuse
The initiative aims to give toys a second life by collecting them at various points across the territory. Donations include electric or electronic toys, indoor games, board games, puzzles, outdoor games, and toys from children's menus or magazines.Local associations benefit from donations
All collected items will be entrusted to local associations such as two Emmaüs Arles and Courthézon branches, HumaNîmes, and the Secours Populaire branch in the Gard.Collection points spread across the territory
Collection points equipped with terminals are spread throughout the territory. Collection and opening dates may vary, so participants are advised to consult the operation's website, jedonnemesjouets.fr, for practical information. Many still discard toys improperly
During the family sorting process, 27 percent of the French continue to throw away toys in the trash, often due to confusion about sorting instructions or lack of knowledge about nearby collection points.Campaign expands to more locations
The goal of the collection is to inform about sorting practices and establish the habit of solidarity donations in daily routines. To facilitate this, the operation extends to 18 stores, 14 post offices, and 8 associations in the Gard, multiplying collection points close to residents.Eco-organizations handle toy reuse
Ecosystem and Ecomaison, the two eco-organizations responsible for the reuse and recycling of toys, collaborate to ensure all products collected in November are handled and entrusted to partner associations.Workshops create jobs and restore toys
Priority is given to reuse, with solidarity workshops creating jobs for people in insertion. These workshops perform meticulous sorting, cleaning, and restoration work for damaged or incomplete toys. Most toys are reused annually
Nearly two out of every three toys are reintroduced into the solidarity circuit each year, directly benefiting consumers. For toys that are too damaged or irreparable, recycling takes over, reincorporating materials into new products or transforming them into energy.Different organizations handle different toys
Ecomaison handles non-electric toys, while Ecosystem processes electrical and electronic products.
