Play premieres in Nice

Le petit garçon avec une ombre d'oiseau, a play written by Anne Sibran and directed by Muriel Mayette-Holtz, premiered at the Théâtre National de Nice from 15 to 23 December 2026. The production features a cast of seven actors and includes creative contributions from several designers and artists.

Story follows a boy with a bird-shaped shadow

The story follows Abezou'ch, a young boy who lives alone with his grandmother Gazella on the edges of the desert. All of his family members have gone to the city. Overwhelmed by sorrow, he discovers one day that his shadow has the shape of a bird.

Boy tries to hide his unusual shadow

Initially panicked, he tries to hide it. However, every evening, as night approaches, the bird's shadow thickens. One night, it begins to fly. The narrative explores themes of isolation, transformation, and the connection between the physical and the symbolic.

Play commissioned by the director

The play was commissioned by Muriel Mayette-Holtz, who was impressed by the power of Anne Sibran's writing. Together, they imagined a subtle and sensitive play full of shadow and silhouette games, using visual and theatrical elements to enhance the storytelling.

Supported by cultural organizations

The production received support from the Fonds d’Insertion pour Jeunes Artistes Dramatiques, DRAC, and Région SUD. It is intended for audiences aged 10 and older and runs for 1 hour and 30 minutes, offering a blend of drama, visual artistry, and symbolic storytelling.
