Capcom reports record sales

Capcom has reported record sales for the first half of its fiscal year 2027, with the majority of purchases being digital. The company's success is driven in particular by Monster Hunter: World, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

Recent game releases praised by critics

During the calendar year 2026, the publisher released three games that could claim the title of game of the year: Resident Evil Requiem, the new and ambitious Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. All were praised by critics.

Older games dominate sales rankings

However, these recent releases do not represent the majority of the profits for the current fiscal year. Rather, older games, such as Monster Hunter: World (a service game released in 2018), the remake of Resident Evil 2 (2019), and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017), occupy the top three positions in the ranking of the ten best-selling Capcom games for the first half of fiscal year 2027.

Resident Evil 2 surpasses previous bestseller

According to Capcom's latest public financial report, the remake of Resident Evil 2 officially surpassed Resident Evil 5 as the best-selling game in the series, with 19.75 million copies sold, and this figure has since increased by 2.06 million, reaching a total of 20.38 million copies sold.

Monster Hunter World leads the sales chart

Monster Hunter: World, however, dominates the ranking, with 30.83 million copies sold, an increase of 1.17 million. Resident Evil 7 comes in third, with 20.38 million copies sold, an increase of 2.06 million.

Top ten best-selling Capcom games

Here is the complete list of the ten best-selling Capcom games for the first half of fiscal year 2027: Monster Hunter World - 30.83m (+1.17m), Resident Evil 2 - 20.38m (+2.06m), Resident Evil 7 - 18.87m (+1.47m), Resident Evil 4 Remake - 17.5m (+3.54m), Resident Evil Village - 16.27m (+1.33m), Resident Evil 3 - 14.93m (+1.56m), Devil May Cry 5 - 14.78m (+1.83m), Resident Evil Requiem - 8.51m (+1.59m), Pragmata - 2.73m, Onimusha: Way of the Sword - 1.78m.

Monster Hunter Wilds underperforms

It should be noted that Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest entry in the series, is not listed. However, the previous game remains a major asset for Capcom, which shows how unpopular Wilds is after a year of player complaints since its release in February 2025... even after Capcom reduced its price "definitively."

Digital sales dominate

According to Capcom's financial report, these figures represent the highest total sales and game sales ever recorded by the company for a first half. Most of the sales were digital: 92.4% in total, including 57.1% on PC and 35.3% on consoles. In comparison, physical sales account for only 7.6%.

Cinematic adaptations boost sales

These results came shortly after the release of Capcom's two latest cinematic adaptations: the film Resident Evil by Zach Cregger became the most profitable in the series, while Street Fighter topped the box office during its opening weekend. The possibility of a sequel remains uncertain.

Future projects and awards

Pragmata has also been successful, to the point that Yoshikazu Shimauchi, a senior executive at Capcom, hinted that a sequel is likely. Add to that the one million copies of Onimusha sold on its first day, and 2026 emerges as Capcom's year. It remains to be seen what the Game Awards will bring.
