The Garmin Forerunner 255, introduced in 2022 as an upgrade to the Forerunner 245, is a smartwatch aimed at serious athletes, particularly runners, cyclists, and swimmers. It is currently available on the online marketplace AliExpress for 188.59 euros, significantly below its original price of 349.99 euros. A discount code, FWFR20, provides an additional 26.74 euros off the purchase. While it is a step up from lower-end models, it is still positioned as a mid-range option for those who need structured training features but may not require the advanced capabilities of Garmin’s higher-end watches. The Forerunner 255 includes a GPS system that works with multiple satellite networks, including GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo. This multi-band GPS system improves accuracy in challenging environments such as dense cities or under tree cover. The watch can last up to 14 days on a single charge when used in connected mode, 30 hours with GPS active, and 16 hours with the more precise multi-band GPS. Additional features include a barometric altimeter for tracking elevation changes during outdoor activities, a triathlon profile for training, and 5 ATM water resistance, which means it can withstand water pressure equivalent to a depth of 50 meters. One of the Forerunner 255’s practical features is its physical buttons, which remain functional in wet conditions or when wearing gloves, a plus for runners who train in varied weather. However, it uses a MIP transflective display, which is easier to read in bright sunlight but not as vivid as AMOLED screens in indoor lighting. Unlike the more expensive Forerunner 265, the 255 does not include built-in music storage or map features, which are available in the higher-end model. The Forerunner 255 is seen as a solid choice for athletes who train multiple times a week, offering reliable GPS, a barometric altimeter, and good battery life. However, the current discount is considered relatively small, with some reports indicating the same model has been listed for as low as 125 euros. Buyers on AliExpress are encouraged to check the exact model variant, as some listings may show different pricing.
