New swimming pool in Roncq

The Métropole Européenne de Lille (MEL) has asked the Agence COSTE Architectures to design a new Metropolitan Swimming Pool in Roncq, a town in the Nord department of France. The facility will be a major addition to the area's recreational infrastructure.

Size and cost of the project

The swimming pool will cover an area of 3,025 square meters, including 556 square meters of water surface. The total construction cost is estimated at 11.80 million euros before tax, and the facility is expected to be completed by May 2027.

Architectural design features

The design of the swimming pool will follow a bioclimatic approach, focusing on sustainability and environmental harmony. The building will be a long wooden structure with a roof that rises gradually at the entrance, creating a unique visual identity.

Visual and spatial elements

The façade of the building will include transparent sections and colored scales that evoke the movement of water. The structure will be described as a wooden vessel open to the surrounding landscape, integrated into a landscaped park designed by the SLAP agency.

Integration with the environment

The building will feature a long glass façade interrupted by wooden posts under a gently rising roof. This design will allow for external circulation, transparency, and mineral beaches that extend the interior spaces into the gardens.

Sustainability and comfort

The bioclimatic design of the swimming pool incorporates an HQE (Haute Qualité Environnementale) approach, focusing on high performance in environmental integration, construction processes, materials, energy, water, and waste management. It also emphasizes comfort in terms of humidity, acoustics, visuals, and olfactory aspects, as well as the use of natural and durable materials.

Interior layout and facilities

Inside, the basin hall will be generous and modular, featuring a wooden truss and large glass windows that open the space to the outside. The hall will include a 380 square meter sports pool, a 177 square meter learning and leisure pool, a playful splash area, bleachers, and mineral beaches, offering a variety of activities for visitors.
