MSC World Asia, the newest addition to MSC Cruises' World class of cruise ships, has completed its final sea trials off the west coast of France. During these trials, the ship's performance was thoroughly tested, including its engines, maneuverability, fuel efficiency, safety systems, speed, and stopping distance. These tests are a crucial step before a ship is officially launched, ensuring it meets all safety and operational standards.
Now, the ship will undergo its final preparations at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire. It is set to be delivered on 25 November 2026, after which it will be officially named in a christening ceremony planned for Le Havre at the end of the month. MSC World Asia will be the 24th ship in the MSC Cruises fleet and the third in the World class to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a fuel source, following the successful launch of its sister ships MSC World Europa and MSC World America.
The ship will accommodate 6,782 passengers and will feature a unique 12-metre-long, nine-metre-wide dragon sculpture suspended 10 metres above the ground in the World Promenade. The ship will be divided into seven distinct onboard areas, including Family Aventura for families, Zen Area for relaxation, Aqua Deck for water activities, and the luxury MSC Yacht Club. Additional attractions will include a Harbour outdoor park with a Cliffhanger swing ride that soars 50 metres above the ocean and The Spiral @ Tree of Life, the longest dry slide at sea, stretching 81.3 metres and covering 12 decks.
MSC World Asia will offer 40 bars, lounges, and restaurants, including a 1980s and 1990s-themed Clubhouse and Soda Bar, as well as a Pan Asian Bar serving cocktails inspired by street food, including a unique draught beer called Oceanic Asian. Once launched in December 2026, the ship will embark on seven-night Mediterranean cruises, visiting destinations such as Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Messina, and Valletta. Prices for these cruises start from £630 per person.
