The MSC Group, a major player in the cruise industry, has announced the start of construction on Sandy Cay, a private island set to open in 2028. This island, located near the existing Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, will be exclusively for guests of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, two of the company’s cruise brands. Sandy Cay will feature five beaches, areas for relaxation and wellness, a variety of dining options, private retreats, and other services designed for leisure and comfort. Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the company's other private island, will continue its development with new dining spots, family and adult beach areas, and spaces for relaxation and marine conservation activities. These additions are expected to be introduced gradually over time. The two islands are intended to provide different experiences: Ocean Cay will emphasize nature, marine conservation, and environmental education, while Sandy Cay will focus more on relaxation and personal wellness. In addition to the development of these islands, MSC Cruises has become the global partner for the 38th America's Cup, a prestigious sailing competition taking place in Naples. Meanwhile, the broader MSC Group has expanded its reach by entering the river cruise market through Explora Journeys. The company also announced the itineraries for Explora Journeys for the 2027–2028 season. However, not all plans are moving forward as expected. Explora Journeys has canceled its Middle East cruises for the winter of 2027–2028. This decision comes alongside the development of MSC World Asia, a new cruise ship that is expected to bring new opportunities to the French market. The company is clearly working to diversify its offerings, balancing environmental focus with luxury and relaxation for its guests.
