Besançon hosts safety sessions for road users

Besançon has organized two awareness sessions with the Road Safety Prevention Association of the Doubs to emphasize the importance of visibility for pedestrians, cyclists, and electric scooter users. These events aim to promote safer behavior during the transition to winter, when daylight hours decrease.

Sessions take place in central squares

The first session will occur on November 3 at Pasteur Square from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and the second on November 10 at Jouffroy-d’Abbans Square at the same time. Both events will focus on the rules of cycling and electric scooter traffic.

Winter darkness increases road risks

The initiative aligns with the seasonal shift to winter, when shorter days make it harder for drivers to see pedestrians and cyclists. This increased risk is a key reason for the timing of the awareness campaign.

National campaign targets road safety

The events are part of the national Light and Vision Weeks, organized by the Road Safety Prevention Association to address the dangers of poor visibility on roads. These weeks aim to reduce the number of road fatalities, particularly at night.

National data highlights urgent need

According to the National Interministerial Observatory for Road Safety, 42% of road fatalities in 2023 occurred at night. To address this, the Light and Vision Weeks will run nationwide from October 15 to November 30, 2026, with 100 prevention villages set up across France.

Prevention villages offer practical help

Each prevention village, staffed by volunteers and partners, will provide visibility equipment checks, educational workshops, and information stands. These activities aim to make road users more visible and reduce accidents during low-light conditions.
