The sixth-gen Toyota RAV4 introduces electrified powertrains and a redesigned interior, but faces stiff competition in pricing and incentives.
New RAV4 generation launched
The Toyota RAV4, a long-standing leader in the SUV market, has entered its sixth generation with significant updates, including a redesigned interior and enhanced powertrains. The new model includes electrified gasoline engines, offering both a full hybrid and a hybrid rechargeable option with an electric-only range of over 130 km.Pricing and incentives
The new RAV4 starts at 46,950 € for the hybrid simple version, which is 7,000 € more than a Kia Sportage and 10,000 € more than a Peugeot 3008. It is not eligible for certain purchase incentives, such as the prime CEE, because its environmental score is above the required minimum.Interior design and features
The sixth-generation RAV4 maintains a familiar design but uses a more rigid and optimized platform. The interior has a more angular and minimalist look, though it still resembles the previous model. The cabin includes a refined dashboard with visually appealing materials, though some areas use hard plastics, such as the central console.Comfort and space
The RAV4 offers good habitability and comfort, with well-designed front seats that provide good support. The rear seats are spacious, but the middle seat is uncomfortable for long trips due to its flat design. The cargo space is generous, with 514 liters in the hybrid simple version and 446 liters in the hybrid rechargeable version, slightly reduced due to the battery placement.Powertrain options
The RAV4 will initially be offered in a hybrid simple version with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Two variants are available: front-wheel drive with 185 hp and all-wheel drive with 194 hp. By the end of 2026, hybrid rechargeable versions will be introduced, offering increased power and a larger battery.Charging and performance
The hybrid rechargeable version includes an AC charger with 11 kW, allowing a full charge in three hours, twice as fast as the previous model. It also features a DC fast charger with 50 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in 30 minutes. During a test drive of the GR Sport hybrid all-wheel drive version, the vehicle performed smoothly in city driving but showed some noise during highway acceleration.
