Reports suggest that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), one of the most anticipated video games in the industry, could be released as early as 2027. A rumored release date of November 19, 2026, has been floated as a possible end to the long wait for fans of the popular open-world series. If this date is confirmed, the game would launch on next-generation consoles like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. A PC version and a multiplayer mode, often referred to as GTA Online 2.0, are expected to come later, though Rockstar Games, the game’s developer, has not officially commented on the multiplayer aspect. Dan Clancy, CEO of Twitch, a leading live-streaming platform, mentioned during a Bloomberg interview on September 17 that GTA 6 is likely to boost viewership on Twitch. He also predicted that the following year, when the multiplayer mode is expected to launch, could see an even bigger surge in interest. Clancy noted that Twitch has been in close communication with Rockstar to help them engage with content creators and build excitement around the game. The possibility of GTA Online 2.0 launching in 2027 is considered plausible, though it would be a much later release compared to the original GTA Online, which debuted just weeks after the launch of GTA V in 2013. Rockstar Games has been working on a variety of projects, leading to a more chaotic schedule. However, some believe the studio might be focusing entirely on the base game first, which is described as the most ambitious in the series’ history. There are also discussions about the future of GTA Online 2.0 itself. Some analysts believe it could involve a complete overhaul of the existing multiplayer mode, potentially featuring a massive update. In terms of business strategy, GTA Online was originally included with GTA V but later became a standalone service in 2022. Rockstar now has options: they could make GTA Online 2.0 a free part of GTA 6, sell it separately for players who aren’t interested in the solo campaign, or charge for it universally. The decision could significantly impact how players access and engage with the game’s multiplayer features.
