Funding for 25 insertion projects

The Department of La Réunion has allocated nearly 698,000 euros to 25 insertion projects, with 226 planned recruitments within the framework of the employment and skills pathway (PEC). These supported jobs are aimed at individuals who face difficulties in accessing the labor market.

Funding details and usage

The decision is detailed in the minutes of the permanent commission on October 28, made public the following day. The elected officials voted 676,007 euros in operating subsidies and 21,992.55 euros in investment, totaling 697,999.55 euros. These funds are intended for the projects, and not sums directly paid to the recruited individuals.

Diverse range of supported activities

The 25 supported projects cover several areas: maintenance and enhancement of sites, shared gardens, vegetable farming, agroforestry, preservation of endemic plants, reforestation, recycling, and solidarity sales. The diversity of these missions is intended to allow participants to gain work experience in different environments, in contact with teams and supervisors.

Challenges for residents in distant communes

For residents of Saint-Denis and other Reunion Island communes distant from employment, the challenge is twofold: to find paid activity and to develop skills usable in future job searches. The local authority announces the number of people to be recruited across the island, but its report does not specify the distribution of positions by commune or by structure.

Overview of the PEC program

The Ministry of Labor defines the PEC as a program combining employment, training, and support. It targets unemployed individuals facing particular social or professional difficulties. The orientation depends on a diagnosis conducted by the public employment service; therefore, access to a pathway is not automatic.

Structure and support in the PEC program

The beneficiary signs a work contract and has support during their activity. The employer must organize a follow-up, designate a mentor, and allow the acquisition of skills. The goal is to prepare the continuation of the professional journey beyond the task completed on the project.

Process for interested individuals

Interested individuals can inform their counselor of their interest in the jobs related to site maintenance, vegetable farming, or recycling. They can then have their situation examined in light of the available programs and actual job offers. The 226 recruitments announced constitute at this stage the objective associated with the 25 projects funded by the Department.

Limited details on recruitment logistics

The approved funding provides a framework for the operations, but the Department does not publish, in its announcement of October 29, the detailed list of employers or the recruitment dates. Therefore, it is not currently possible to assign a number of positions to Saint-Denis, the East, the West, or the South of the island, nor to announce a general opening of applications.
