Google Vids, a service that lets users create and edit videos, has launched a new feature that converts text documents into AI-generated video summaries. This function, which was previously available for free, is now part of the advanced tools offered to paid users. The feature is accessible to subscribers of several Google services, including Google Workspace Business and Enterprise, Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra, as well as non-profit organizations and users with specific educational modules. The feature is currently rolling out, with immediate access for fast publication domains and a planned launch on September 5 for others. Users may need to wait up to 15 days for the feature to appear in their accounts. To use the feature, users need to open Google Vids in a browser, select the "File" menu, and choose the "Documents to Video" option. From there, they can upload a text document. The AI then creates a script, adds narration, and suggests personalized visuals to bring the content to life. This tool is part of Google's broader strategy to enhance its AI capabilities and improve user experience with digital content. The feature builds on recent advancements in Google’s AI technology, such as improvements to AI avatars using the Nano Banana 2 system earlier this year and the integration of a new video generation engine based on Gemini Omni in the summer. Google aims to make information more accessible by transforming lengthy documents into concise, engaging video summaries. While the tool promises to simplify the way people consume information, it remains to be seen how effectively the AI will handle complex or nuanced content without making errors. User feedback will be crucial in evaluating the feature's performance and identifying areas for improvement.
