A man dressed as Batman helped recover a stolen handbag in Norwich after witnessing the theft during a night out. Sonni Mason, 25, was attending a friend’s fancy dress party in a Batman costume when he saw a handbag being snatched after a row in a queue for a nightclub. Mason was joined by others dressed as comic book characters, including Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four and Poison Ivy from the Batman franchise, in chasing the suspect. They flagged down a group of police officers, but the suspect had already dropped the bag.
After a tip-off, the bag was found about 300 metres from where it was stolen, on top of a high flint wall near Norwich Cathedral. Attempts were made to retrieve the bag using toilet paper, which is sometimes used to help grip slippery surfaces, but these failed. Mason then scaled the wall in his Batman costume and recovered the handbag. He returned the handbag to its owner, who was grateful for the recovery.
Much of the incident was captured on a TikTok video uploaded to Mason’s account, where he described the events. Mason, who is from London and works in a cafe, said he hoped to inspire others to help those in need, emphasizing that being brave, bold, and kind is important. A Norfolk police spokesperson confirmed that officers were approached on September 19 by a member of the public seeking help to locate the missing bag. Following inquiries, the bag was located with all its contents intact and returned to its owner.
