A 21-year-old woman from Broadstone, Poole, Dorset, chased off car thieves while wearing only a bath towel and holding a baseball bat, as captured on CCTV footage. The incident involved Nicki Vine, who lives with her father, Darren, and works with him as a plasterer. The video shows her running from her home, one hand holding up a towel and the other gripping a bat, as she confronted a thief attempting to open the side door of her father’s work van. The thief, wearing a helmet, was trying to access the van when Nicki ran outside. Startled, the thief fled down the street and was joined by an accomplice on a motorbike. Although the pair managed to escape, Nicki stepped into the road and attempted to swing at the motorbike as it sped past. Nicki explained that she had just returned from a friend’s house, taken a bath, and noticed unusual activity on her home’s CCTV monitor. She saw a motorbike pass slowly with two people on it before returning. One of them got off and walked down the road, triggering her "sixth sense" about what was about to happen. When the thief tried the handle of the van—something she described as "our livelihood"—she ran outside with the bat, wearing only a towel. She attempted to throw the bat at the thief, though it missed. She then stepped into the road to confront the motorbike, shouting "come on then" as it approached. Though she had to step aside, she claimed she "was pretty sure" she hit the motorbike with her swing. Nicki and her father had previously been victims of car theft and were determined not to let it happen again. Her father had left the van’s side door unlocked while retrieving tools, giving the thief an opportunity to act. Nicki expressed gratitude for the "incredible" support she has received from her neighbors.
