Approximately 280,000 people applied for the chance to run in the Paris 2027 marathon and half-marathon, a strong indicator of the event's popularity. The first results of the lottery system, which was introduced for the first time in Paris, will be sent out this Thursday, October 1st. This system was implemented to give all applicants an equal chance of securing a race bib, regardless of when they registered for the event. For the Paris Marathon, which is scheduled for April 4, 166,000 runners participated in the lottery. Meanwhile, the Hoka Paris Half-Marathon, set for March 7, attracted nearly 110,000 applicants. Participants in the lottery came from 165 different countries for the marathon and 135 for the half-marathon, highlighting the international appeal of the event. The results will be communicated to applicants gradually via email starting on Thursday, October 1. Those selected will need to confirm their participation and pay for their race bibs within 72 hours, starting at 4 p.m. on October 2. If a bib is not confirmed within this timeframe, it will be returned to the pool and may be allocated in future lottery draws. Other ways to obtain a bib include "Registered Bibs," which allow runners to secure a spot by supporting a charitable organization through a fundraising campaign. Additionally, companies and partner tour operators have special access options. An official resale platform will be launched from December 1 to enable runners who can no longer participate to sell their bibs in a secure and organized manner.
