The upcoming Paris marathon, set for April 4, 2027, is introducing a new system for registering runners. Instead of the previous "first come, first served" method, participants will now enter a lottery to secure a bib, which is the official race entry. Registration for the lottery started on Tuesday, April 8, at 2 p.m. and will remain open until September 30. Those selected in the lottery will have 72 hours to pay for their bib. According to organizers, this change is intended to make the registration process less stressful and more equitable for all participants.
The cost of a marathon bib is fixed at 169 euros. This price is lower than the "last minute" price used in 2025, which was 179 euros, but higher than the early registration price of 135 euros offered to those who signed up nearly a year in advance. Runners can register individually or as part of a team, and an official platform will be created to allow bibs to be resold if participants are unable to run on the day of the event.
In an effort to support those in need, 1,000 special "solidarity bibs" priced at 50 euros will be made available. These bibs are intended for job seekers, scholarship recipients, and individuals receiving the RSA (a French social welfare allowance) or adult disability allowance. Additionally, the marathon course route will be announced in early 2027 after discussions with local authorities.
The organization of the Paris marathon and half marathon has been assigned to the Cadence group, which includes companies such as Keneo, Havas, and Avena Event. This group was chosen by the city of Paris in May 2025 to take over from ASO, the organization that had managed the event for nearly 30 years.
