Water supply changes in Mayotte

SMAE (Mahoraise des Eaux) has informed users in multiple areas of Mayotte, including Bouyouni and Mamoudzou, about changes to water supply schedules from October 16 to 18. The adjustment affects the timing of water delivery in these regions.

New water supply time

The new schedule involves opening water supply at 12:00 instead of the usual 10:00. This change is part of a revised plan to manage the current water distribution more effectively.

Cause of the schedule change

The adjustment aims to address a production deficit of -2000 cubic meters per day. This deficit is due to the shutdown of one of the two treatment lines at the Bouyouni potable water production plant.

Reason for the plant shutdown

The shutdown was caused by a technical issue involving a faulty hydraulic equipment at a clarifier. The clarifier is a key component in the water treatment process that helps remove impurities.

Maintenance and resumption plans

Maintenance operations are currently underway, and the clarifier must be emptied and cleaned before resuming production on the affected line. The resumption is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, October 17.

Advice for water users

SMAE advises users during the water resupply to ensure all taps in the house are closed and let the water run slowly for the first few minutes. This is to allow any sediment or impurities to pass through.

Water safety recommendations

Users are also advised to let the water run until it is clear, collecting it in a container for non-consumption purposes. For drinking and cooking, the water should be boiled during the first half day following the resupply to ensure safety.
