Two complaints have been filed against a school animator in Saint-Aubin-d'Aubigné, a small town near Rennes in the Ille-et-Vilaine department, leading to his suspension and an ongoing investigation. According to local media ICI Armorique, the animator, in his twenties, is accused of sexual violence and has been placed on administrative leave. Prosecutors in Rennes have opened an investigation into the case. The town hall recently sent a message to parents to address concerns and launched a transparency initiative to manage the situation and ease tensions. The first alert came on June 27, when the gendarmerie (military police) in Betton informed the mayor of Saint-Aubin-d'Aubigné about a complaint against the animator for "acts that could be punishable under criminal law." The animator was placed on leave the next day. Two days later, a five-year-old girl began to speak about the violence she had experienced at the hands of the animator. Her parents told ICI Armorique that their daughter would start crying when her name was mentioned, indicating the emotional impact of the situation. At the beginning of September, a second girl, nearly five years old, also reported experiencing sexual violence from the animator and described similar incidents to the first victim. The families of the two children, deeply affected by the events, criticized the town hall for its silence, saying that in three months, authorities could have warned the families. However, the town hall defended its actions, stating it had remained discreet at the request of the gendarmerie to avoid interfering with the investigation. In response to growing concerns from parents, the town hall sent a message through its family portal on Thursday, emphasizing that the protection and well-being of children in municipal services are a top priority. The municipality also announced plans to hold a meeting with parent representatives in the near future to address the community’s concerns and provide further information.
