Experimental play in development
A new experimental play titled Youth !! is currently in production and seeks co-production partners, residency hosting, and pre-purchase support. The play is directed by five performers, including two female skateboarders, two male skateboarders, and a musician.Themes of transition and urban life
The play explores themes of rites of passage between childhood and adulthood, as well as the role of children in cities, lives, and adult bodies. It centers on the protagonists and an amateur chorus of approximately ten young skateboarders, teenagers, and young adults.Inspirations and creative process
The characters are inspired by figures from J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan in the Gardens of Kensington, first appearing in a park in London. The play is created using a process of plateau writing, based on directed improvisations, through back-and-forth between the rehearsal room and the skatepark/urban space.Blending reality and performance
Several structures and narrative forms intertwine, blending reality and imagination, theater and storytelling, the nightlife of a skatepark, and the ritual of a vigil. The performance will take place at dusk in a skatepark and its connected urban spaces.Audience participation and movement
It is a moving performance in which the audience is invited to move according to the intrinsic modalities of the skatepark. Spectators may sit, stand, or move according to the scenes. Skateboarding, an art of risk and movement, constitutes a large part of the choreographic material of the creation.Production team and collaborators
The production team includes Julien Marchaisseau as writer and director, and performers Ilian Calaber, Adèle Gerlec, Luka Mavaetau, and Julie de Pachtere. Sound and musical creation are handled by Cyril Fayard and Mathieu Semman, while set design is by Kevin Klein and Adrien Maufay.Support and creative partnerships
The play has received support from several organizations, including Lieux Publics, Centre National des Arts de la Rue et de l’Espace Public – Marseille, and others. It also collaborates with BSM Board Spirit Marseille, Massilis’Squad, Popocorn Sauvage, and the Basinga Company.Premiere date and location
