Élise Chatauret and Thomas Pondevie are creating a new performance titled Nos corps désirants, which explores how desire is expressed and experienced in modern times. The performance draws from a wide range of cultural influences, including music, painting, mythology, and literature, to examine complex themes such as problematic fantasies, figures of sleeping women, and powerful passions. Six performers will reenact scenes from famous paintings by Fragonard and Bacon, and reinterpret lyrics from popular songs by artists like Souchon and Gainsbourg. To translate the abstract concept of desire into physical movement, Pondevie and Chatauret have partnered with choreographer Sylvain Huc. The stage is designed as a surreal playground, aiming to explore new forms of freedom and encourage feelings of trust and joy among the performers and audience alike. The performance will be directed by Élise Chatauret, with dramaturgy by Thomas Pondevie. Sylvain Huc contributes to the artistic collaboration and choreographic writing. The production includes stage management and dramaturgy assistance by Agathe Peyrard, scenography by Charles Chauvet, lighting design by Léa Maris, sound design by Jérôme Castel, and costume design by Noé Quilichini. Set construction is handled by Ateliers de la Comédie de Saint-Étienne – CDN. The production is by Cie Babel and includes collaborations with several theaters and cultural institutions across France, such as CDN de Normandie-Rouen, Théâtre des Quartiers d’Ivry – CDN du Val-de-Marne, and others. The performance will receive support from the DRAC Île-de-France and participation from the Jeune Théâtre National. Rehearsal photographs were taken on January 26 at MAC de Créteil. The creation will be presented at La Comédie de Saint-Étienne – CDN from 6 to 9 October 2026. Additional performances are scheduled at various venues across France, including Theatre de la Croix-Rousse – Lyon, Theatre de la Tempête – Paris, and others, with dates ranging from October 2026 to March 2027.
