JBL has launched a new line of smart speakers called the Cove series, offering three distinct models designed for both home audio and multiroom setups. The series includes the Cove M1, a compact stereo speaker powered by electricity; the Cove X1, a larger speaker with support for Dolby Atmos, also electrically powered; and the Cove P1, a battery-powered option with 14 hours of playback and weather-resistant features. All three models are compatible with JBL soundbars and can be controlled through the JBL One app, which also allows for advanced features like linking speakers in stereo or integrating them into a home cinema system. The Cove series introduces a touch interface on the top of each speaker, enabling users to navigate playlists, adjust volume, and manage audio signals between connected devices. While the speakers primarily rely on wireless connectivity, the Cove P1 includes a USB-C port for charging. They support a range of modern audio technologies, including Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast, along with Wi-Fi for compatibility with services like AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, and others. Additionally, built-in microphones allow voice control via Amazon Alexa. The multiroom feature of the Cove series allows each speaker to be controlled individually or grouped together for synchronized playback. Users can link two similar speakers in a stereo configuration or integrate them into a home cinema setup using a speaker from JBL’s MK II series. However, this feature is currently limited to the Cove M1 and Cove P1, and will be expanded in the future. Each speaker also includes an automatic acoustic calibration system that adjusts sound quality in real-time during music playback. In terms of size and price, the Cove M1 is the smallest and most affordable, measuring 12.5 x 18.4 x 12.5 cm and weighing 1.65 kg, with a price tag of 229.99 euros. The Cove X1 is significantly larger, at 26 x 17.8 x 17.2 cm and 4.88 kg, priced at 499.99 euros. The Cove P1, which includes a battery and IP56 certification for dust and water resistance, measures 14.6 x 23.3 x 14.7 cm and weighs 3.26 kg, with a price of 449.99 euros. The JBL Cove series will be available in black and gray, starting from October 8, 2026.
