Nvidia has introduced the RTX 5080, the latest addition to its high-performance graphics card lineup, following the RTX 4080 and its RTX 4080 Super variant. The RTX 5080 is designed to handle 4K gaming with improved performance and features, though it is positioned below the more expensive RTX 5090, which offers double the CUDA cores and video memory. The RTX 5090 starts at around 3,900 euros, making the RTX 5080 a more accessible option for gamers seeking high-end performance without the premium price. Among the available models, the Shadow 3X OC from MSI is being promoted as the flagship version. This variant includes a factory overclock, offering a slightly higher boost clock of 2,640 MHz compared to the standard 2,620 MHz of the reference model. During the Flash Prime Days, which took place on Tuesday, October 6, and Wednesday, October 7, the Shadow 3X OC was offered at a 100 euro discount, reducing its price from 1,489.99 euros to 1,389.99 euros for Amazon Prime members. The RTX 5080 features 16 GB of GDDR7 memory, which provides a bandwidth of nearly 1 TB/s on a 256-bit bus. This upgrade significantly enhances performance in 4K gaming, supported by DLSS 4, a technology that uses artificial intelligence to improve frame rates and visual quality. The card includes three Torx Fan 5.0 fans that stop spinning when the system is under light load, helping to reduce noise. Measuring 303 millimeters in length and weighing 1,046 grams, the RTX 5080 occupies 2.5 slots on a standard PC motherboard. It also includes three DisplayPort 2.1b and one HDMI 2.1b ports, allowing for 4K resolution at up to 480 Hz with DSC compression. According to MSI, the RTX 5080 has a power consumption of 360 watts, requiring a minimum power supply of 850 watts with a 16-pin connector. The card uses the GB203-400 chip, which includes 10,752 CUDA cores—slightly more than the 10,240 cores found on the RTX 4080 Super. While the RTX 5080 benefits from the advanced GDDR7 memory, it does not feature more than 16 GB of VRAM, unlike the RTX 5090, which doubles that capacity. The RTX 5080 also has access to DLSS 5, a newer version of the technology initially reserved for RTX 50 cards, which has already been implemented in NBA 2K27 since September 3. However, some users have reported issues, such as one player who reportedly damaged their new RTX 5080 while attempting to activate DLSS 5 in GTA V.
