The Pokémon Pocket Trading Card Game is getting major updates, including dual-type Pokémon and changes to the Booster release cycle, ahead of its second anniversary.
Pokémon Pocket Trading Card Game updates announced
The Pokémon Pocket Trading Card Game is set to undergo major changes to improve gameplay, battles, and the card collection experience. These updates are being introduced ahead of the game's second anniversary and are planned for an upcoming expansion launching in late October 2026.Dual-type Pokémon added to expansion
The new expansion will include dual-type Pokémon, which can have abilities and weaknesses from two different types. This addition is expected to make battles more dynamic and provide players with more strategic options during gameplay.Slower Booster release cycle planned
To address concerns about the difficulty of collecting cards, the development team will extend the Booster release cycle from about four weeks to six weeks. This change is intended to give players more time to collect cards at their own pace and reduce the pressure of keeping up with frequent releases.New features and Special Boosters introduced
New features will include immersive cards that can be obtained through missions, as well as Special Boosters called "First Partners." These Boosters will feature the first Pokémon partner from each of the nine regions in the Pokémon video game series. They will require a unique vitality that recharges weekly, adding a new layer of strategy to card collection.Combat and deck-building improvements
Combat experience will be enhanced with the introduction of "Community decks," which allow players to view and build upon popular decks created by others. Loan decks will also be more accessible, with unlimited uses and availability starting from the release of new expansions. Restricted battle events with specific card usage rules will be introduced after each Booster release.Easier exchanges and sharing features
Updates will also make exchanges and sharing more convenient. Players will be able to view cards not yet registered in a partner's Cartodex and see what cards a recipient is looking for during a share. These features, along with new gameplay elements, will be introduced with each new Booster release.Development details subject to change
The development team has emphasized that the content described is still under development and may change. Final details and update dates could be adjusted, and players are encouraged to stay tuned for further announcements.
