Magic: The Gathering, a popular collectible card game, is introducing a new product called God Packs, as announced in a blog post by Wizards of the Coast, the game’s publisher. These packs will be entirely made up of rare and mythic cards—some of the most powerful and valuable in the game. Both Play boxes and Collector boxes, which are standard packaging for the game’s cards, have a chance of containing a God Pack. Approximately one in 1,000 Play boxes and one in 300 Collector boxes will be a God Pack, making them relatively rare and highly sought after by players.
Inside the God Packs, the contents will vary depending on whether the pack is a Play booster or a Collector booster. Play boosters will include a special God Pack celebration card, along with 10 non-gold rare and mythic cards, two non-gold Booster Fun variants, and two gold Booster Fun cards. Collector boosters, which are larger and more expensive, will contain a gold land card, three gold rare and/or mythic cards with standard frames, three non-gold Booster Fun variants, and five gold Booster Fun variants. These changes aim to increase the value and excitement of opening these packs.
In addition to introducing God Packs, Wizards of the Coast has decided to increase the chances of receiving gold rare and mythic cards in all boosters. However, some elements will be removed from the packs, including common and uncommon gold cards that were previously included in game boosters. The number of cards in Collector boosters will be reduced to 12, as three slots will no longer be reserved for common and uncommon gold cards. This change is intended to make opening Collector boosters more meaningful, as many players tend to skip the lower-tier cards when opening these packs, as seen in popular unboxing videos.
These updates will take effect with the release of the Nauctis: The Realm of Depths expansion, which is part of the game’s main storyline. The changes will also apply to all future editions of this universe. For Universes Beyond, a line of Magic: The Gathering sets based on other intellectual properties, the changes will begin in 2028. The updates reflect Wizards of the Coast’s ongoing efforts to enhance the player experience and maintain the game’s appeal to both casual and competitive players.
