Confusion over planned demonstrations

Confusion has arisen within the ranks of Force Ouvrière (FO) regarding planned demonstrations in Montpellier. The Departmental Union of FO in the Hérault (UDFO 34) issued a statement on Friday, October 23, clarifying that it did not call for a demonstration on Saturday, October 24, in Montpellier.

Appeal by FO ESR

The confusion stems from an appeal issued by FO ESR, the trade union Force Ouvrière of Higher Education and Research, which claims its autonomy in decision-making within the broader trade union movement. FO ESR has submitted a notice of demonstration to Montpellier's prefecture of the Hérault.

Prefect rejects the appeal

The prefect, Chantal Mauchet, rejected the appeal. An appeal is currently being reviewed by the administrative court, which is expected to make its decision on Saturday morning. The UDFO 34 calls for a demonstration on November 5.

UDFO 34 dissociates from FO ESR

"The Departmental Union of Force Ouvrière of the Hérault did not submit a request for a demonstration to the prefecture for this day," the union states, referring to the initiative of FO ESR. "The UDFO 34 dissociates itself from the call by FO ESR because it considers it dangerous in the current context."

UDFO 34 plans its own demonstration

The union, which "unequivocally condemns all forms of violence," however, calls for a demonstration on November 5. "The UDFO 34 will do everything possible to ensure that the demonstration on November 5 takes place under good conditions and is a success," the trade union structure continues.

UDFO 34 seeks collaboration

The UDFO 34 wishes for consultation with other trade union organizations and authorities to allow a demonstration where their demands will be heard.
