BMW is set to unveil the iX5 M, a high-performance electric SUV with over 900 horsepower, expected to outpace competitors like the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV.
BMW develops new X5 M models
BMW is developing the X5 M, a high-performance version of its electric SUV, which is expected to push the boundaries of electric vehicle performance. The X5 M will be available in two versions: one with a V8 internal combustion engine and another fully electric, the iX5 M, which is anticipated to set new benchmarks in power and speed.Design details and aesthetics
The new X5 M models will not feature a radical redesign. Instead, they will include specific wheels and body elements to enhance their sporty appearance, while maintaining the overall design of the current X5. The iX5 M will have active aerodynamic vents on the front bumper, and the interior will retain its layout but with additions to emphasize its performance-oriented nature.Technical specifications and performance
The iX5 M is expected to have significantly more power than the current iX5 60 xDrive, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The M variant could achieve the same acceleration in about 3 seconds, thanks to four electric motors, one for each wheel, providing standard all-wheel drive and a power output exceeding 900 horsepower.Battery and charging capabilities
The iX5 M will use the same large 141 kWh battery as the current iX5 60 xDrive, which provides a range of 850 kilometers. Although the increased power may slightly reduce this range, the vehicle will retain its 800V architecture, allowing for faster charging at stations.Release timeline and competition
BMW plans to launch the iX5 M earlier than the X5 M with a V8 engine. The electric version could debut by the end of 2027, while the V8-powered X5 M is expected in mid-2028. The iX5 M will compete with other high-performance electric SUVs, such as the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, which has a power output of 1,169 horsepower.
