A massive mosaic made entirely of pumpkins has set a new world record, featuring Sir David Attenborough to celebrate his 100th birthday. The artwork, created by Sunnyfields Farm in Hampshire, spans 218.19 square metres and was assembled using around 11,000 pumpkins and squash. It took 18 people about five hours to complete the intricate design. This new record surpasses the farm’s previous achievement, a 212 square-metre mosaic of musician Ozzy Osbourne created in 2025, which itself had broken the farm’s earlier record. The choice of Sir David Attenborough was made after Sunnyfields Farm asked the public on social media to suggest a subject for this year's artwork. The response was overwhelming, with many requesting the British naturalist and broadcaster. Sunnyfields director Thomas Nelson explained that Sir David’s influence on families across the UK and the world, along with his lifelong commitment to environmental and social causes, made him a popular choice. In-house artist Andrew Béga, who designed the portrait, said Sir David was "just the perfect fit" due to his iconic status and widespread recognition. The record was officially confirmed by Guinness World Records senior adjudicator Pravin Patel during the unveiling event on Tuesday. However, the team faced significant challenges in creating this year’s display due to extreme weather conditions. Five consecutive heatwaves and prolonged droughts across the UK have affected pumpkin farming, resulting in smaller-than-usual pumpkins. Despite these obstacles, Sunnyfields Farm remains optimistic about future projects. Director Nelson said there is always room to improve and grow, and the team is already thinking about how to make next year’s display even bigger and more impressive.
